Hustling to Spring
Spring is a tease around my part of the world! The warmest so far was when it hit 40 degrees and we couldn't get enough of that. We are back down in the 20s, and boy was it ever cold! It could be that my body grew older and I'm more sensitive to it.
They say that March 20th is the official day of spring, but I doubt it, because today is March 20th and we are still freezing.
I see the daffodils and the tulips are pushing up from the dirt; only the next day were buried under the snow again.
Even though I am so looking forward to spring, my yard needs serious cleaning from last year debris, and this year trash. A few warm days would ease me along just fine to get out there and do my chores.
Now, my questions are:
1) Why do we have to spring forward one hour?
2) Who decided that March 20th is the official day of spring?

Happy Spring Icy! It's cold here too, but looking forward to milder temperatures this weekend!
ReplyDeleteYou know I'm wondering those questions too!
ReplyDeleteI don't want to spring forward or back. I just want time to be time. As I get older, it takes so much adjustment.
And Spring...why it's already summer here..well that was two days ago.
it was 85
and today it's COLD!
I want to live in Hawaii.
It's freezing here too but at least the sun is shining.
ReplyDeleteI don't know. Smiles. But I do wish that they would leave the time a lone. I think it just makes more work for us, changing the clocks, and getting the kids use to the time change. It's crazy that our body adjust to the habits, and when the habit alters, we have to adjust.
ReplyDeleteI am cold all the time. I can't get warm enough, but we are not as cold as mich! I would be sick all the time when I used to live up there.
It's very windy here but not too cold. We have days which are very warm and then it cools down again - and that's OK by me because I never look forward to summer's intense heat.
ReplyDeleteAs for the time change, that was definitely a plus to living in Arizona - we never had to change the clocks. Of course, it gets dark early there, but in the summer, it's a blessing when that sun goes down! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI found these links that will hopefully answer your two questions:
About the Daylight Savings Time: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/03/130309-daylight-savings-time-2013-what-time-is-it-spring-forward-nation/#
About the start of spring: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equinox

Since Lindy was kind enough to research both of your queries we can rest on those. :-) I hate snow but am the same time am grateful to God for it as we are afterall the water wonderland and need our many bodies of water replenished. Last year in it's pecularity we had many fruit trees bloom early and not be able to harvest then we were greeted with one of the driest summers ever. Are we back on track this year?
ReplyDeleteI love the spring forward but hates the fall back. Sorry itbis still cold there, if only I could bring you some warmth from San Diego
ReplyDeleteIcy, I have the same questions as you. I have to answer "I don't know" to both of your questions.
ReplyDeleteI am really happy that spring is coming... can't wait to grow my veggies...
ReplyDeleteI dont know the answers to your questions. It is getting incredibly hot and humid here in Mumbai now. Wish we had a bit cooler weather. Have a lovely weekend :)
ReplyDeleteI have no idea who started the "spring forward" thing, but I'm sure glad they did, because the more daylight, the better I like it.
