Updates On: Pain In My Heart

My mom and I went to see the oncologist yesterday, and she confirmed that my mom has cancer. She said the only treatment is to have a lumpectomy, but it is very small to concern about, and it could have been there forever.

Since this was my mom's first mammogram, the lump showed up, and it's a cancerous lump! Giving my mom age, her diabetes, high blood pressure, and macular degeneration, I translated my mom's wishes on NOT TO DO ANYTHING! The lump is not spreading, or life threatening, but it might grow bigger!

The oncologist was very comfortable with our decision and holding my mom's hands the entire time she was with us. She gave my mom a prescription to take in helping to shrink the lump and suggest a breast exam every six month.

However, the medicine also comes with side effects of joint pain, body ache, and low energy. If my mom feels any of these symptoms, she can stop taking them, and it's totally fine too.

Well, it was such a huge relief to me on many levels! I couldn't sleep the night before, so after the appointment and grocery shopping with my mom, I crashed on the couch like a baby :-)

God is good; all is good! Thank you for all your prayer, concern, and caring!

My questions are:

1) I believe in the power of praying, do you?

2)  I am happy, are you happy today? It's not mind boggling questions today, I know, but questions still..

Time to join Thursday Two Questions!

  3. any illness is scary especially when it's the painful kind. i hope your mom is not in any pain.

i had two cysts removed from my breast a few years ago---we have a history of breast cancer in the family, and it totally freaked me out. i believe in the power of prayer. i prayed that the lumps were benign, i claimed they were benign even before the surgery. the surgeon even noticed how calm i was when he told me of the lab results.

yes, i am happy today, and i will happy tomorrow.:p

all the best to your mom and your family.

  4. Oh, that is wonderful news!! I am so pleased for you and your Mom!

I mean, cancer is never good news exactly, but we are all learning that there is cancer, and then there is cancer, aren't we? And often our first reaction is (quite understandably) panic. I'm so glad to hear that there is no need for panic with this little lump.

  8. From what you described Icy it sounds like the right decision was made. If the lump isn't growing and causing no problems there is no need to stress your Mom any further. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm happy today too! I kept my questions light and simple.

  9. that sounds great. I am so happy for you and for that you are not worried so much. It is hard to take on such great responsibilities. I can understand why you had so much on your mind.

  10. Yes, Icy, I do pray, I am praying for you, your mom, the medical people, and the rest of Mom's family. I am so glad that you are praying. I am glad that you are feeling okay with the way things are working out.

I feel that this situation and the way things are working out is God's answer to prayer. God doesn't always answer with what we want but with what is in his plan for us.

    1. Thanks Jim, and I believe you're right about his plan for us! It also has to be his own time, and not ours! Thanks for praying!

  11. Icy, I am in continual prayer but it seems I "arm wrestle" God for control of my problems. lol

I am so glad you met with a caring oncologist and that she was wise with her advise. Does your mother believe in taking herbs to relieve her discomfort? Turmeric helps with the inflammation caused by arthritis but also helps to free the body of radicals that cause cancer.

Basically, I am very happy, but am suffering some major setbacks. God will work them out.

  12. First off, that is never good news to hear. I'm happy for your family that it's not as scary as it could have been. I had my bout with the nasty stuff (you probably remember me posting about it) a few years ago and it can turn everything in your life upside down.

    Your questions...
Call it prayer, the power of positive thinking, or whatever. I do believe it works. Positive and healing thoughts help, negative thoughts hurt.

Happy? I am so happy! We're healthy, in the desert and parked on the bank of the Colorado River for two weeks. The weather is nice and the view is fantastic.
