Future Plan
Sunday night, we got hit with another snow storm, and followed by freezing rain. Thus, we had a day off from school on Monday. It is only the end of January, so we will have more snow storm to go through. It is normal for our part of the world, and I do take advantage of photo opt when the sun came out to play.
Many elderly people from my church have gone South to avoid this unpredictable weather, and it is understandable. Unless you have helped or in perfect health condition, getting around icy parking lot isn't at all fun, or shoveling driveway and sidewalk. The surface every where was sheer ice, and became slushy as the rain pouring down.
My questions are:
1) Are you planning to move to warmer climate when you're ready to retire?
2) Where would be an ideal and affordable place are you thinking of?

We have had three lots of snow here this winter so far, but fortunately they have all been very light. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I love snow and yet it can cause a great deal of difficulty for people. I myself have had nasty falls in past winters. These are two questions we will be asking in about nine or ten months when my husband retires. As yet we have no plans to move to a warmer climate but we do intend to travel a bit, and hopefully will find ourselves in a favorable spot mid winter. This is all in the sowing the seed stage though.
ReplyDeleteit's slippery and foggy outside today here. I don't have plans to move south at the moment. I should think about that!
ReplyDeletethat golden sky is so beautiful! :) I have yet to experience winter....on my side of the world we only have rainy season and summer and the one in between the two seasons which is right now when the climate is perfect for both sunny kisses and cool evening hugs.....the thought of having to shovel and getting around an icy parking lot makes me thankful I am here...funny though that the hubby and I are looking forward to being able to migrate on your part of the globe maybe around ten years from now...for now we take joy in being home sweet home...wishing you sunny skies soon! :)
ReplyDeleteIt never occurs to be that the snow and cold can cause so much hardship, especially to the elderly. I guess we are so spoilt here.
ReplyDeleteThat sky shot is amazing and wants to join the others on pinterest board. lol
ReplyDeleteHubby and I talked about moving to Arizona once I retired, but now that I have so many grands I would be devastated to leave them. My grandparents wintered there.
Winters are hard on us. We pay someone to shovel but that's only good for at home. There are many parking lots and so forth that are icy just like you said, and it is a scary risk. I am ready for spring.
Hugs!
we are spoiled here where we are, i love snow but only for recreation, meaning i love to go there up in the mountains but i do not want the snow to go down to us. maybe, as long as we can afford the cost of living here as it is very costly, we will retire here. otherwise, we may look for similar weather but cheaper.
ReplyDeleteHaha, i am late for linking in again, as i don't remember most memes, because i just look for memes depending on what i have posted. Besides, i lingered much reading your post about the ranks, etc, etc. I enjoyed it and learned but for the questions: 1. Many people from temperate climates think of retiring to a warmer climate, that's why many come to our country for that. 2. Of course, the Philippines can give you a home away from home. And here you can live like a queen in old age, because you can have helps and handyman to do all your needs, even caregivers when you already need it. And being known to be very hospitable, people on the streets are always smiling to foreigners, willing to help and lend a hand! Now have i answered your questions! regards...Andrea
ReplyDeleteI am so lucky for living in a warm country.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot! To answer your questions, we have retired, and not to where we always imagined we would. But, it was for the best. We had always thought we'd end up in the foothills of the Virginia mountains. I see now that would not have been a good plan. Instead we are in Tucson AZ where it is too hot in the summer for us, but at least we are avoiding the extreme cold (snow and ice) we would have had in the winter.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure we already live where we want to stay. The weather (if you want to call it that) is almost always mild. No snow, but we can get to snow in a couple of hours. If it gets cold (a relative term for sure) we can also get to the desert in a couple of hours. If it's hot, the ocean is just down the street. I just made up my own mind. I'm staying here!
ReplyDeleteA nice post, Andrea. Welcome to Thursday Two Questions. It is a fun little Q&A meme. I do hope that you have warm weather soon. Will Global Warming getting worse and worse each year I am sure that you will have your fill of it before fall.
ReplyDelete1) Are you planning to move to warmer climate when you're ready to retire?
I am retired and do live in a warmer climate. We play golf year round, I played the last two Tuesdays since we have been back.
Mrs. Jim moved to Texas in 1968 to work, I moved here in 1964 with my job. I was in the Army at El Paso, Texas, for five years, then moved to New Hampshire for three, and then back to the Houston area with NASA. I grew up in Nebraska.
I tell people that I left a snow shovel behind in Nebraska and one in New Hampshire and I never want either of them back again.
2) Where would be an ideal and affordable place are you thinking of?
You would like our area north of Houston. We live about fifty miles north, where the hills have begun. Our subdivision borders on Lake Conroe is you want to Google that. Texas is called to be affordable for retirees, Louisiana is more affordable. We have no state income tax and our othe taxes are fairly low. Gasoline prices are always with or a few cents above the lowest in the U.S. Groceries prices are low with no tax on them or medicine (prescribed or OTC) or medical supplies like wheel chairs or hot water bottles. Across our lake the RV park fills in the winter with snow birds.

Hi Jim,
DeleteHave you realized that you called me Andrea? Well, surely you know that I'm not..Thanks for visiting!
I am same with Betchai. Our weather is 60/ 70, sun shinning, bird singing in January. We get about a week of cold and rain, and then it's gone. I am very happy where I am. The older I get now, the more I want to stay in my home. I have made it into a haven, and would like to enjoy it a lot more.
ReplyDeleteHello Icy, when I retire, I hope that I can be in a cooling weather all the year round.. :)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, can you please respond to my email? Waiting for your response.
