Home Little Decorations
I decided that this year I am not going to put up the Christmas tree, or digging in the attic to bring out the many storage containers. My children are grown, and they really don't want to drag out the Christmas stuffs or "singing around the Christmas tree" anymore.
It is perfectly fine with me as it is lots of work to do by one-self. Simpler is always better, I believe!
However, since I am somewhat a religious person, I need to have a touch of Christmas spirit around my house, so I frantically searched the thrift stores for small decoration items. I just want to add a bit here and there, which I accomplished in two evenings. Done! No mess! No waiting for the kids to bring down the boxes, and no hollering at them to put the boxes back!
All the decorations you see in the picture cost me less than 25 dollars including tax. Adding little knick knack here and there gives the house a festive look, and what my kids like most are the candles. They light them up every night now to see that glow :-) I am now ready for Christmas and visitors.
This week questions are:
1) When decorating for the Holidays, do you involved all family members in the process?
2) Are your house decorated throughout, inside and out, every nook and corner?

Icy I love the tree topper and the candles give it all that extra touch. I can't believe it all cost less than $25.
ReplyDelete1. We used to all get involved in the decorating which usually took an entire day.
2. Now, since it is just me, I don't do any decorating but when we visit our brother for the holidays, his whole house is decorated inside and out.
I'm not in the Christmas Spirit for some reason this year - maybe I'll decorate on Christmas Eve :)
ReplyDeleteand I meant to add - GREAT finds at the thrift store!
ReplyDeletesimple, but sweet! I too opted for a tabletop tree this year, but I did that because of my new Siamese kitty. She is so fond of climbing anything! I'm still looking for a topper for my 3-foot tree.
ReplyDeleteVery nice your Christmas decorations, a lovely touch. I have a tree up and a few knickknacks around. I don't do nearly as much as when our son was young and living at home. I am the one who usually does the decorating. We are having house guests and I have put a few decorations in their bedroom too but I have definitely cut back..
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely a lot of work. :) Love what you did! Are those pepper lights? So cool!
ReplyDeleteYes, they are pepper lights :-)
DeleteI do the decorations myself, mostly on the ground floor, and just a few things here and there!
ReplyDeleteMy two kids, adult ages 43 and 40, have long left 'the nest'....but I still get into decorating the house each and every year. Even if it's the two of us. Hubby helps. As long as I am able-bodied, I will decorate. I especially like your simple holiday decor!!
ReplyDeleteI love decorating although I find it stressful until I start. I enjoy making memories around the Christmas tree. We have some decorations spread around the house but not in every nook and cranny :)
ReplyDeleteI love the pretty decorations you've put out. I think lights and candles add so much...especially since the days are so short. We are retired and keep things simple...just for the two of us! Holiday hugs!
ReplyDeleteI know people who decorate all through their homes, like Jeannie. I did when the kids were home and they helped. Hubby doesn't care about it so I sent most the decorations to the kid's houses and I have my small artificial tree which is a cinch to put up.
ReplyDeleteI love your finds. They are awesome and so festive. Good for you. I have a nativity that stays up year around. He is the reason for the season. :-) Merry Christmas to you and yours!!
i could not remember the Christmas decoration was a family event for us, it was just me and my late mom before, maybe it is not much about decorations where we came from, though we celebrate Christmas the best way we could too. Like you, i get away with doing big decorations, i go for simpler decors now, I love my tiny "joy to the world" sing-along toy :)
ReplyDeleteOur biggest festival, the festival of Diwali is where everyone in the house is involved. People clean their houses and put light lamps on their balconies. Inside we light earthen diya's.
ReplyDeleteSimpler is better.
ReplyDeleteSimpler is happier.
my husband is the grinch - oh don't get me wrong, he loves the decorations, but he doesn't participate. This year he carried in the tree with my daughter. That's it - My daughter and I set up the tree in the stand, I put on the lights and then she and my sons put on the decorations. We decorate the living room, dining room and foyer, setting up a rather large Christmas village. I was slow with outside, in fact, still not done, but most of the lights are on the bushes, need to replace a couple of sets for the front step rails, then will be done. With young kids still at home, we do a lot of decorating!
ReplyDeleteI really like your decorations Icy.
ReplyDeleteSince it's just my hubs and myself I don't do a lot of decorations most years. This year, like Norma, I have kittens in the house so no tree. It wouldn't last long with these guys here.
The years I do decorate it's just in a few places, never all over the house.
My tree is in the attic. I usually ask SO to bring it down. D is not here, and M is in his own world. T likes to have the deco up, if it was up to me, I just get the little pre-decorated tree and I am fine with it. This year since Q is coming, I thought we just make it as festive as possible. SO didn't decorate that outside...he put them up in the house instead...haha...
ReplyDeleteI like what you have there, just some spirit to feel the holidays.
wonderfully creative decorations and lovely decor ~ I am keeping it simple ~ Lights in the window ~ small tree and scattered simple decorations ~ Easy up and easy down ~
