Summer Break Is Coming

With only two weeks left of school and my son will be on summer break.  My plan to travel failed through as other things came up and took priority. However, we still might take a shorter trip instead, which means I will be hearing "I am bored, mom" serenade more often!
Raindrops on Leaf

When my son was younger, it was easier to entertain him with different crafty projects, or places to go. Now, being a teen, everything is different and difficult. He is into wood-shop, but I am not comfortable with power tools, so this area is off limit to him also.

I am trying to find crafty things to do with him to occupy time, but it seemed for teenage boys there aren't many little projects to carry out. Of course, there are plenty of other opportunities if I pay for them, but that is not what I am looking for. I like to have FREE-structured, Free will, and Freedom for these short months.

Here is my Wandering Thought for this week:

1) Are you a crafty person? If so, what are you working on at the moment?

2) How do you keep your teenager busy during the summer?

Come and join us at Thursday Two Questions!

  2. Ah, I remember those days! But I guess I was lucky because I had four -- two girls and two boys! Well, I still have four, but they're in their 40s, so easy to please now days! We had a motor home and traveled a lot during the summers. I'm sure you will come up with great ideas for fun in the summer!!

  3. I am crafty if it means improvement. I am not a crafty person to have "more" if you know what I mean. I am afraid of "more" of the same things -unless it is edible, consumable.
Matt is happy to just be doing things on the weekend and sleeping in, he is not too irritable. I like that he finds things (games, legos, play with his friend) to keep himself busy.

  6. first, that is one awesome picture, so glassy, love it.

when i was baby-sitting my nieces and nephew before in the summer (but they were all younger than 10 then), because I was not good in crafts either, we had structured activities instead such as time to play outdoors, time to sit down and paint ( it was their favorite because we would go some quiet and scenic places to paint ), reading, math games, etc etc, i was almost running out of activities to do with them :(

  7. Love your photo. My children always had summer jobs. Then there were programs children could sign up for to have a job during the summer. Now a days many an adult needs that job so they are not as plentiful. Hand tools should be safe for woodworking. I used my father's power tools and had a ball creating things, but I don't blame you for being cautious. He could make lots of things with scraps found out at lumber yards, or perhaps create his own blog. He is quite talented, like his mom. :-)

  8. Those raindrops are gorgeous!
I'm not crafty as in hobby projects but I do quite a bit house related projects. I love my set of power tools and they are very safe as long as precautions are taken. I always wear eye protection and make sure anything I am working on is secured and can't slip. A good safety course might ease your mind Icy.

No teenagers here, my only step daughter is in college in AK so no need to entertain her in the summer. When she was younger we spent a lot of time at the park or lake.

  9. Ahh the teen years. Wow. I've been hearing so much about it.

    1. I'm not at all crafty. I do it if I"m forced, but otherwise no no on no. :)

    2. If you could afford it , I'd say send him to camp. So many awesome camps are also free at come churches and community centers.

    Happy Thursday!

  10. the raindrops on the leaf is so lovely!! how I'd love to touch the water :-)

...I used to be crafty back in the days when internet was not yet accessible haha, from sewing to artsy things..now all I do is take photos and sit in front of the computer and plan what craft to do haha :D
...smiling as I read the phrase "I am bored mom"...my kiddos say them a lot when there is no internet....but they do love the outdoors, running in the fields; picking fruits; and roadtrips...and a spooky movie and their favorite magazine could keep them just at home...blessed day :-)

  11. I agree with your son that wood shop is fun. I don't do many things that would be crafts other than something like that.

  12. I'm definitely creative. I do all sorts of arty things. One look at my decor will show how much I love creating.
I try to do activities that don't always involve money. Parks, games at home, friends, picnics in the park, are all summer things I try to do with the kids.
They always go away for a week to bible camp, then another week to their grandparents.

  13. That shot looks very cool and refreshing!!! I am headed to Jaipur, right at the start of monsoon season...but it will be very hot in spite of the rains.
Go see "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" - terrific movie and you'll see my first stop in India this five month visit...a month, at least. I loved it so much last time.

  14. First off, love that photo!
I am so far from being a "crafty" person. I'd like to be, but I'm not very artistic at all.
My advice for kids, is to keep 'em busy while you can! But then again, I'm no expert...
