My Rock Patio Area

Who wouldn't like to have beautiful patio pavers to sit in the sun and sipping ice cold lemonade? I wanted to have an area in my backyard for this very purpose, and in fact have tried to create one myself. My daughter, her friends (boys and girls), and I dug up bushes.

We laid down weed killer pad, moved little pebbles from one part of the garden, and filled up this area. It looked neat enough. It was a made-do area, and we had many fun nights with our fire pit. However, it was not anything like I have imagined, but butterfly loved it for some reasons.

The first two years, this area was a place for my daughter and her friends to hang out. We set out lawn chairs around the fire pit, and they brought over marshmallow/hot dogs/ sausages for their feast.

The weed killer pad worked for that first two years, but the debris collected between the little rocks turned to dirt, and weeds started to grow. My what-so-called rock patio area is now covered with many different types of weeds.

Blue and White Weed Flowers
The flowers in the above photo are the wild weed flowers that have taken over my rock patio area. I have a mixed feeling about this place. I want it to be neat and pretty with pavers, but on the other hand, I want see these beautiful weed flowers to come back year after year.

I know I can't have it all, so for now it is what it is!

  1. You see butterflies, then you should have seen pupae, and caterpillars.

    You should have seen many.

    Life is great, though simple.

  3. At least you have pretty weeds, Icy. You could've just had ugly leafy weeds with no cute flowers. Are you sure that blue one is a weed? :-)
