Easy and Simple Way to Shut Off Automatic Music Playing on Blogs
I am so happy! Truly, honestly, and deeply happy! No, I didn't win millions dollars lottery, and no, Oprah Winfrey didn't offer me a book publication deal either.
I am happy simply because I found a way to shut off the blogs with automatic music player! I strongly despite arriving on a blog with flaring music, forcing me into listening, startle my being, disrupting my thoughts, and interfering with my reading.
Music is beautiful, don't get me wrong, but music is such a personal choice for everyone.
I listen to classical and inspiring music when I write or commenting on blogs to keep my brain focused. It always bothers me when I arrive on blogs that play music, and I don't like to return for visits.
So here is a very simple and easy way to shut off automatic music playing on blogs or websites:
1) If you've written a long post, do you want your visitors to read and leave a meaningful comment, or just shooting the breeze?
2) Do you find automatic music playing on blogs distracting, and taking attention away from the post?

So here is a very simple and easy way to shut off automatic music playing on blogs or websites:
- Click on the sound icon on the bottom right tray of your computer
- When the icon shows up, choose Volume Mixer
- A window popup, look for the browser that you're using, and muted the sound icon
- You can choose to mute all the applications on your computer too.
- Now, you have a choice of listening to your own music, or just work in silent

it depends on what music they are playing, some of them I like, not all for sure!
ReplyDeleteIcy, I like meaningful comments on a post. Shooting the breeze once in a while is okay :)
ReplyDeleteI don't like music automatically playing on a blog, even if I like the music so this is very useful information. Thank you.
1) I think it depends on the post. If it is easy to read, something interesting, personal, or an learning post like yours, the reading is a treat. When it is a story that never gets to a punch line or something that isn't at all interesting, I find one thing to comment on if possible.
ReplyDelete2) thanks for the tip on the music and volume, but I don't have browser in my mixer. I just mute my computer right away... and get out of there as fast as possible.
I love visitors. If they want to shoot the breeze that is fine, as long as they are friendly. You and I know what it is like to get nasty comments and spam. Those are just wrong. If someone has something meaningful to add that is more than welcome (of course). :-)
ReplyDeleteI hate to open a blog to have music blaring at me. It is so distracting and it causes hubby to increase the already loud volume of the television to compete. Help!!
I dislike music playing on the blog too as it can be very distracting. I do most of my blog surfing when the baby sleeps so sound is on mute to prevent waking her up.
ReplyDeleteI would rather have insightful comments and have been deleting all " good post" as its SPAM to me.
days fly so fast...your two questions I love answering are here again:-)
ReplyDeletehmmm of course I always love reading comments written from the heart...you know them when you see them...and on the blog music haha, I remember putting on nature sounds when I started my blog that I myself eventually got irritated with haha, there'd been times lately that I spent minutes trying to select the right music to place on a playlist again but never find the right one I feel comfortable hearing haha, so I end up not putting any music anymore...perhaps when I get all the time in the world I'd place a music box again but one that does not automatically play...:-)
I am just like you, I can't focus if there is music on. I have a radio at work and I listen to classical music all day long, but when I have to think, I turn it off.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, this is helpful !
I had music on my blog when I first began blogging 5 years ago. I put a lot of thought into the songs and tried to match the music to the post. When I began to hear more and more bloggers complain about music I took it off, and now I honestly don't like hearing music on other blogs myself. To solve that problem I usually just turn my lap top's sound off.
ReplyDeleteA nice long comment on a long thoughtful blog post is wonderful, but just knowing someone came by, read, and says a quick "Hello" can also be good every now and then. I realize not everyone has lots of time on the computer.
The music is loud and jarring for me especially if I have forgotten to lower the sound. Sometimes I lies their choice of music but it can be distracting. As far as your other question I'm not sure what u meant, but I prefer a comment that relates to what I've said. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip! I'm not a fan of music on a blog, I listen to music while I surf so I find it irritating to hear it on a blog. But it's nice to have a choice so I appreciate the tip on how to get rid of it! In comments I don't mind shooting the breeze or something that pertains, either is fine by me, I enjoy the comments, I like the new blogger reply, but not sure anyone comes back to read replies.
ReplyDeleteNot all blogs with music bother me. I guess it depends what type of music they are playing. As you said, you can always turn the sound off.
ReplyDeleteHello, IcyB ~~ With the music you hit a sound off spot with me.
ReplyDelete1. I will take it either way. Most of all I would like for people who read my post to leave a comment. Even if it just says 'Hi.'
2. As soon as the music starts playing I hit the mute key on my lap top. It is shared with "f11" and works really good. A little orange light comes on at the top of the key to remind me that I've muted the sound.
I don't want to leave it muted as our daughter, Karen, and granddaughter who live in London may be Skyping us and I would miss their call if I'm not at the computer.
..
Thanks for the info--I must say I kind of like it playing when I'm looking at blogs. Have a terrific weekend. Mickie :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Icy for the nice comments.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I love music, but I am from oldies though. My laptop has the sounds muted, no matter what.
I love visuals, and I do not have a lot of time on the computer, and will all the blog hops, so I'd rather read a short post than a long one. I write short posts too.
Thing is, my volume on my computer is always off. If people have music playing, I don't know because I can't hear it. :-)
ReplyDeleteI also turn the sound off on my phone I don't like the loud dings operations make on computers and phones.
I love great comments because I mostly try to give them. However, not everyone stays around long enough to do so, unfortunately.
I feel that way about the music on blogs too. I just don't like it. But I understand it's their blog, but it makes me not want to go back.
ReplyDelete1. I usually write for myself, so if someone take the time to really read and comment then it's great and I feel special, but if not, I totally understand and don't sweat it.
2. We do a musical blog hop and I went to a blog to listen to their list of music videos for the meme, but couldn't hear her choices because she had music constantly playing on her blog.
Yes it's very distracting, esp if you are watching tv while blogging.
Happy weekend!
THANK YOU so much for this information! I just hit the mute button on my Mozilla browser.
ReplyDelete1) I have a photography blog, so I don't write long posts.
2) I find the music very distracting and it interferes with the music I am already playing! Again, thanks for the tip.
Since most of my posts are filled with photos and very little writing I really hadn't thought about this. If I were to write a lengthy post I would hope the comments would at least relate to the post.
ReplyDeleteI almost always have the sound muted while I am visiting blogs. What bugs me is when the automated music is playing and they have a video I want to watch. I wind up going to You Tube to watch so the music won't drown out the video sound.
I am so like you Icy, I can't focus and gets shocked when I open a blog and loud music is playing. To avoid this, whenever I go blog-hopping, I turn off the volume of my laptop first.
ReplyDeletei forgot about the first question,sorry.....
ReplyDeletemost of the times, i write short posts, but if there are times i cannot avoid short posts (such as travel itineraries which actually end up always as my most visited pages because a lot of people are searching for travel tips), i break the post with images to break the boring-ness from seeing a lot of words. actually the travel itineraries i write or road trips report, i often write them not really for blogging but mostly for me, since a lot of friends and relatives usually ask me for help making travel plans, and it is easier for me to just take the link out and send to them. i soon find out it has helped my blog's traffic greatly, but not the type of visitors who would leave comment. i get "thank you" notes sometimes from unknown people using my itineraries from the feedback form but not from comments section.
of course, comments really help inspire me, even it is a simple "hi" I always appreciate it.
though i want to write as much posts that generate more traffic to my site, i can't do it with so many things to do, so little time :(
Thankyou for this information.
ReplyDeleteThanks! A lot of times I don't mind but some -- Oh, I read and type as fast as possible!
