Thin Ice

Part of R's requirements for his class was the "mock interview" that he would conduct with all of us. He went through great length on insisting us to repeat each question the interviewer asked us. He was not a regular man! He was very controlling and monopolizing person, my classmates all decided when we talked "behind his back."

Me? I still found his annoying characters charming, and alluring! I was hopelessly in love with this man as far as my feelings went. He couldn't do any wrong in my book! He was just that perfect!

By now the people in both schools, my college classmates and the Elementary teachers, knew that only I could persuade him to do something. I was sent to ask him to let us out early since most parents in class had children concerts to attend, including me. I was sent by teachers to ask him to attend our science presentation. He complied with all my requests!

On my mock interview day, I put on my best dress, and showed up at his office. He asked many questions, which I refused to repeat. Instead of sitting across from me, he pulled his chair right next to my side and said, "You suppose to repeat my questions before answering, remember?"

"I remember, but I'm not a parrot! I heard your questions just fine!" I answered

He scratched his head for a moment, and expressed his confusion. Then he went on, "By repeating the questions, it will buy you more time to think, and it shows that you listen..."

"When I need more time to think, I'll do that, but I come prepared with answers." I argued

R. sighed at my testy attitude. I didn't know why, but I just couldn't do what he had asked or taught us. With him sitting so close to me, I must have lost my head...

Let's Play

Let's have some fun today! Do you know what these pods belong to? They have to be flower seeds, but which ones are they? These flowers are perennial, and that means they come back every year.

These are the seeds after I open up the pods! Do you have any ideas yet? They grow into beautiful flowers, and smell heavenly when you walk by them. They bloom from June to August.

Here are just the seeds! My friend gave me these pods since I always admire her flowers, and she is probably sick of me sticking my nose in her garden for pictures. I will grow these flowers next year.

Did you guess it yet?

Enter to Win a Free Weekend Stay at Hampton

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Hampton Hotels. All opinions are 100% mine.

Last year, when my son's soccer team decided to go to a tournament out of town, we scrambled to find a place to stay. The funny thing with us was, we all wanted to be in the same place for the boys to have fun together after the games.

Through searching, one of the moms found us a Hampton Hotel, a bit farther from the tournament area, but we were happy nonetheless that we could reserve 15 rooms for our team.

So for those parents, and coaches, take advantage of this special offer, and enter to win the grand prize of the entire hotel, 100 rooms, for your team or club.

Traveling with friends is fun, and always creates such beautiful memories. Did I mention Hampton is also giving 100 first prize daily of a free weekend stay with three friends for the winners.

I am getting our team's parents to enter this sweepstakes for a chance to win the grand prize since our tournament in the fall is in Cincinnati, Ohio. If we win, we would be staying at Hampton in Covington, Kentucky! Of course, whoever wins on our team, will have to bring all 17 families this time, and their own friends or relatives.

Pink Flowers With Whiskers

I saw these beautiful pink flowers with whiskers at the park where JoJo has his soccer conditioning every Saturday, but I didn't know what they are. I typed in "pink flowers with whiskers" and found out that they are known as "spider plant or grandpa's whiskers."

I had a good chuckle out of it since I didn't think "whiskers" could be used to describe flower, but apparently that were what they're called. These flowers grew tall and healthy in full sun at the park, and strikingly gorgeous!

The park has many small squares along the parking lot, and is asked families to adopt one square to plant flowers in it. Each year different flowers are planted by different families. I love this idea, and love seeing the varieties of flowers in each square!

Musing With a Purpose-Devotion

JoJo and I spent last weekend traveling out of town for our first Soccer Tournament of the season in Brighton. It was about an hour drive from our home. We left early on Saturday to make it there on time for check-in. The weather was miserable with rain, cold, and wind.

The Team and the Coach

We have 17 kids on the team and two didn't make it to the tournament, which left us 15 players to play their hearts out. We are playing 11 v 11.

First Game

JoJo had to guard big boys, and at one time I thought they would crush my son to pieces when the field was wet and slippery. However, JoJo stood strong, and none of them couldn't get pass him. We lost to this team from Ohio!

Second Game

(Don't you just love this picture of JoJo? He flew!)

We had four hours between first and second game, so along with other moms and dads, I took JoJo to a restaurant to dry out, ate lunch, and rested. It was so cold that some parents had to go shopping for jackets. Again, we sat in the rain for the second game, and I couldn't take any pictures for fear the camera would be wet. We lost, after our goalie got kick in his thigh and sat out for the rest of the game.

Third Game

On Sunday morning, we had to drive back to Brighton for our third game, again it rained! Watching coaches, parents, siblings, referees, and players sitting in the rain I realize how deep our devotion was to this sport.

Although we lost all three games, our players headed against Premier Clubs, but the boys played hard and didn't give up. Our team has just also formed this season, and they still need time to develop relationship!

Homemade Fried Wonton

One of my favorite things to cook is roasted chicken, most often Cornish hens to be exact, since I can just pop this poultry into the oven and do other things while it's cooking. Thus, I always keep my eyes out for new cookware, especially roaster.

CSN website has over 200 stores, and le creuset is one of the brands that I like. After making this fried Wonton below, my children decided that they want them more regularly, so I started to look at frying pan also.

The white shell plate, I bought at Thrift Store for 50 cents, and it makes such a wonderful thing to show off my cooking. My ingredients for these yummy wonton are very easy.

You Will Need:

  • Wonton wrappers
  • About 24 uncooked shrimps, shelled, and removed the vein
  • About 1 ounce of clean pork, or one chicken breast (optional), cut in thin strips
  • White parts of green onions, cut into 1/8 inches thick
  • Oil to fry
Preparation:
  • Separate your wonton, set them aside, flat on a plate
  • Use whatever utensil you are comfortable with, and mash the shrimps, pork/chicken and green onion parts together.
  • Mix well, and season with a dash of pepper and salt.
  • Spoon the mixture onto wonton wrapper, and shape them however you want
  • Pinch the edges to seal
Pour just enough oil to cover the bottom of your frying pan, and bring it up on medium heat. (I don't deep fry my food!) Drop in your wonton, and check it often. Once the skin of your wonton is golden, turn to fry the other side. Add more oil when needed.

Now, you have it, delicious and homemade fried wontons for appetizer!

Peach Color Flower

I like to look for new flowers to photograph, and when I see something different, or unique color, shape, or size, I got too excited and forgot to find out the name. This flower has a very normal, common name, but at this moment, it's blank in my head.

I love the color of these flowers, and if I am not mistaken, these are tea roses, but correct me if I'm wrong, please. The little pink color on the petals accentuates how pretty they all are.

I'm taking JoJo to his first soccer tournament of the season this weekend, out of town, so I will visit and return comments to all my kind readers as soon as I can.

Have a wonderful weekend..

Musing With a Purpose-Faith and Blessings

Last week, my friend, Anne Lyken-Garner, posted this question: "How do you stay focused on counting your blessings?" on her blog, and it got me thinking. Yes, I'm a religious person, a Catholic to be exact, but my faith isn't that strong. I believe in God's mercy! I believe in miracles! I've experienced these special touches three years ago when I literally handed my life over to God.

Since then I've learned to trust God, and listened to guidance when facing a difficult situation. I'm not a model Catholic. I don't go to church every Sunday. I can't quote the bible. I don't talk about religion with people, unless they ask about it. I don't worry about the end of the world. I don't think about natural disasters as God's punishment on us.

So "how do I stay focused on counting my blessings?" I start to count my blessing for the littlest thing, such as seeing a wild flower, the fact that I am able to see its beauty, and capture the moment. These mean my eyes are in good shape, my fingers are still working, and I am able to share it. That is a blessing in itself!

Anne mentioned about how we always asking for more, or praying for more! I am guilty of that, and caught myself the other day. I need to learn a new way to pray. I talk to God more likely than pray. I fall away from God these last few months, and I haven't able to find my way back to church just yet. I love my pastor! (Get that thought out of your head, it's not that way!) He moves me whenever I attended mass with him presiding.

I am not a holy person by any mean, and I don't want to be either! I'm far from that, but I do count my blessing at the end of the day, a house to live in for now, a car to get me to where I have to be, food to eat, healthy children, sun shine, rain, wind, birds, flowers, friends in real life, friends online, and numerous other things on this earth.

So "how do you stay focused on counting your blessings?" It is a question worth pondering upon, don't you think?

Off to Wander

Plant the seeds of Love in your hearts. Let them grow into trees of Service and shower the sweet fruit of Ananda. Share the Ananda with all. That is the proper way to celebrate the Birthday.

Intense Pink Dahlia

I love to go on photo hunt, and these beautiful pink dahlias were found at the park where JoJo is conditioning for soccer. Yes, soccer is in full swing, four hours of intense practice a week, two hours of scrimmage, and two hours of conditioning.

During these eight hours of soccer, 4 days a week, I found myself wandering around the park, and looked for photo opts! Who said sport is fun? It is a lot of work to keep in shape even for these 11 and 12 years old boys.

While waiting for JoJo, I either read, mark my pocket calendar for important dates, knit, or walk around to look for interesting things to shoot. These hot pink dahlias were just stunning in the sun. I posted the peachy color dahlias on Blessing Reflections, if you want to see.

Each year the park planted different flowers, and this year dahlias took center stage! I love this hot and intense pink color of these flowers. Usually, my son preferred that I stayed put and talked to other parents, but he was doing laps so I was free to roam.

On numerous occasions, I embarrassed him with my ever weird way of lying on the grass for a close up shot of clover flowers!

Have a great weekend, everyone!
