Thursday Two Questions #15-Christmas Characters

When my children were little, they were scare to see Santa Clause, the Nutcrackers, and many other Holiday characters.  They would refuse to sit on Santa's lap, and wouldn't go near the elves.

I don't have pictures of my children with Santa until they were in school.  Now, when I see children crying at the site of Santa, it took me back to my own experiences with them. Here are my two questions:

1) Would you force your child to sit on Santa's lap anyway, crying and all?

2) What was your child like? Happy to see Santa, or terrified of Santa?

  1. My oldest son cried so hard when we went to see Santa, that I had to sit on Santa's lap with him. Poor Santa. Unfortunately, we were visiting Santa to have pictures taken, so I had to coax my son to sit on his lap. Needless to say, the pictures didn't turn out too good. My son looked sad indeed, and I looked just plan stressed.

  2. Hello Icy, like you, I won't force a child to sit on Santa's lap if they are terrified. :) Hope things are well.

  3. Dear Icy, I must be a very odd parent, but I don't really go for traditions too much. Though I love to see it. I go with what my family needs and wants, I am not fixative on any procedures. That said,
    1) No way. If Trinity is not comfortable, I would not care.
    2) She was ok, not really excited, nor afraid. She was a bit estrange but went along with the class. Pictures on SS currently was her first Santa meeting.

  5. i grew up not seeing "Santa" up close and personal but i was never afraid of him.:p

    1) if i have a child who is horrified of Santa, i would not force the child to sit on Santa's lap. i would probably explain to him/her who Santa is, show how harmless he is. but if the kid is still afraid, i'd sit on Santa's lap instead. HoHoHo!

    2) one of nephews was terrified of Santa when he was a toddler. he thought Santa was the scary dwarf in one of the bedtime stories.:p

  6. So many children are scared of Santa. I did not realize they would be of the nut crackers. Best wishes for a happy holiday.

  8. I have seen parents at malls force their screaming child to sit on Santa's lap for photos, I would never do that to a child.

Since my only child is a stepdaughter and was five when I met her we never did the Santa visit. For the first few years her visits were in the summer.

  9. I don't have any children yet, but when I do have children, I won't make them see Santa if they are scared. I remember when I used to go see Santa. I wasn't afraid to see him. I was more afraid of how the pics would turn out. LOL!
