Brand Name Myth On Baby Formula

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of PBM Products. All opinions are 100% mine.

Everyone knows that breast milk is best for your baby in term of health and development.  It is also encouraged for new mothers to at least try and nurse their baby during the first three months of life.  However, when emergency situations arise such as illness, baby formula comes to the rescue, and that was the case for me.

After suffering from three consecutive mastitis attacks, my pediatrician advised me to consider baby formula since he worried that my child wasn't getting enough nutrients, and Similac was his choice for my baby.  Back in the day, Enfamil and Similac were the leading brand name for baby formula. My little bundle of joy made a smooth transition from breast milk to formula in no time at all, until Similac faced with recall issues.

Frantically my pediatrician and I discussed about alternative choices. Enfamil was ruled out since my son had a reaction with it.  We retrieved to store brand formula after compared the ingredients between the two formulas, but we couldn't find any differences.  The nutritional values were the same!

The only big change I saw was the lower price for store brand formula.  If you have small children and want to save money, check out the link above.   You will find a coupon for store name formula, which can be redeemed at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Meijer, CVS Pharmacy, Sam's Club, BabiesRUs, and Target.

Store brand formula is much cheaper because they don't spend an enormous amount of money advertising it.

  1. That's so sad. You had a reason not to breast feed, you didn't choose not to. But I see women choosing not to just because...
As you said, breast is best. Thankfully, I was able to feed all 3 of mine.

  2. This is an interesting post. I always thought that breast milk was always best. I didn't know that formula works just as well.

  3. In most cases store brands are just as good as the name brands, it's a matter of comparing ingredients.

  4. While living in NY my husband had a brief period of working in a packaging plant. Various name brands would send the jars and labels to the plant and purchase the product. The same product was labeled differently and priced differently in stores with the consumer being none the wiser.

I am sorry you had to go through mastitis. I found breast feeding my children very rewarding, and easier. Thankfully there was an option.
