Musing With a Purpose-Favoritism
JoJo was chosen by the parents and teammates to be the captain for one of our soccer games. The red band around his leg is the captain band. He was happy and I'm proud, for he isn't the coach's favorite, or one of the coaches' sons. He stood on his own, and made his mark. We have six coaches on our team, and that means seven boys belonged to them. Seven prime spots are taken!
Of course, we all know that favoritism played a big role in any kind of group, from school to private clubs. It is inevitable! It is real and raw! There is no escape and there is no way to voice your opinion. You just have to either take it or leave it, and it is how to play along with life.
My son is a talented and strong player. He used to play midfield or forward and score goals. Now, he is stuck playing defense. He is not very happy with that position, but he is also afraid to say anything for fear of being benched. Seventeen kids on a roster give the coaches plenty of options to go around.
For now, JoJo is learning to cope with the changes, but wishes to have a chance to really play his favorite position, and not having to feed the weak players all the time!

Have a wonderful week!

you just brought forward some sad realities in life we have to face Icy, hopefully Jojo gets to play his favorite position soon.
ReplyDeleteOh congratulations Jojo... and congrats proud Mom.
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful kid and it isn't bad. I bet its good for him too, let him be the master of defense and attack? (sorry not familiar with the game). A good share BC. Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to JoJo for being chosen to be captain even if it was for one game. It is too bad the parents (coaches) can't behave more like adults and give all the kids equal treatment.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to JoJo! And you, I know you're a proud mama!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog! I'm following you back!
Aj, aj Captain
ReplyDeletethat's a way to go!!!
Good luck
Congrats to your Captain! That says a lot, that he was chosen above the "favorites" of the coaches! Not easy being a team player in this day and age. Kudo's to you as well, you're doing a great job raising your boy :)
ReplyDeleteAll art of growing up...be proud Mom of how he handles it!
ReplyDeleteI think that's great that JoJo was able to earn his spot as captain of the team. You are right though. Favoritism is all around us. It's a shame that people who work hard have trouble getting something because they aren't related to the right people.
ReplyDeleteHopefully he can play his favorite spot very soon. This is a big test for him but you've raised him well so he can take on any challenge.
ReplyDeleteIcy, you are a terrific and supportive mom. You have such a strong intuition. Jo Jo will do the best for his team no matter where he plays. Perhaps there was a weakness there and the coach saw his strength?
ReplyDeleteYou're a good mom. JoJo is lucky to have you and all that you are doing for him.
