SunFlowers

Last year for a Science Project, JoJo's school sent home a handful of sunflowers to grow for the summer. He was responsible to write down the day the seeds germinated, measure the growing process until the flowers bloomed, and measure the width of the flowers.

He recorded this process in a little note book, and turned it in to his teacher when school started again. Whoever had the biggest sun flowers would win a basket of books. JoJo's sunflowers were considered to be small when compared to others.

One Proud Farmer

All of the seeds that we sowed turning into these gigantic sun flowers, and they didn't take long to grow since we had good weather last year. To me, they were huge, but there were other sunflowers that were enormous.

The Huge Sun Flowers

You could tell how big these sunflowers were, and I couldn't believe how they turned out. They were very tall and bigger than any other sun flowers I have seen for a while.

Growing

We made a mistake by planting these sunflowers between the driveway and pathway to the garage. Once the flowers bloomed, we had a constant flight of bees, but we really had no other choice since this was the only spot that had sun light.

The Biggest Flower in the Bunch

We enjoyed growing these sunflowers, and watched them growing. At the first school open house, we had to dig the tallest and biggest plants out and brought them to school for display. It was quite a pleasant experiment for both of us.

Bees Attack

I didn't do a good job in taking pictures of these flowers, because the camera I had last year didn't have the zoom option. There were times when I could count at least ten bees on one of these giant flowers.

Facing the Sun

Towering over my head, this sunflower welcomed me every morning! I love sunflowers, and always thought that their bodies wouldn't be able to hold up their heads, but they did just fine.

We are growing some different sunflowers this year, and they are nothing like these ones. The weather has a lot to do with it this year, and I will post them soon.

  3. Icy, one of my grand children was pulling sunflower seeds out of my bird seed. She informed me in a very grown up way that we are going to plant them because she likes eating sunflowers and she thinks my other grands will too! I had to tell her that it will have to wait until next year.

  8. Jojo did a fine job raising sunflowers! I tried growing big sunflowers from seeds here in the desert, but it was too sunny for them and they turned crispy and died before they bloomed. Sometimes a smaller type of sunflower volunteers in our yard and does alright.
