Butterflies' House

There is a butterfly's house at the Detroit Zoo, and it is one of the best attractions in our area. Last year, we enjoyed a day at the zoo with my kids, niece and nephew. Though at that time, my old camera used 2AA batteries, and they died after a few shots.

It was a nightmare using this kind of camera, and I bought only Duracell Copper Top for it. The camera was so unreliable with this type of battery. For the hours that we've spent in the butterflies' house, these seven photos were all I could get.

Orange Butterfly

There were so many different types of butterflies in this house, but there were also too many people and children. It was difficult to just get a picture of the butterfly without people in it. To top it all off, the workers were intensely watching over everyone's little move!

Only Closeup One

This butterfly landed right in front of me, and was my only closeup shot! I had hoped to go back on a less busy day, but my schedule didn't allow it this year.

Yellow and Green

The butterflies' house wowed many visitors, especially with the children! Their eyes lit up and they all had big smiles as soon they stepped inside. I saw butterflies landed on heads, shoulders, backs, and shirts if the people stood still long enough.

Brown One

After taking a few photos, I had to change batteries again! Sometimes, I reversed the batteries and was able to squeeze in a few more photos since I knew the batteries were not bad.

Colorful One

With the malfunction of the camera, I was not able to zoom in to any butterfly at all. As soon as I zoomed in, the camera went dead.

Human and Nature

After so much struggling with the camera, I decided to just enjoy the butterflies' house instead of trying to take pictures. If they landed in front of me, then they would become my object, otherwise, the camera stayed shut!

In Focus

This butterfly was the last shot on my camera! I've since replaced that camera with another one that using a flat rechargeable battery pack. It worked out much better and the battery lasts much longer.

You got some great butterfly shots even with the battery problems. I like the Close-up and the "Human and Nature" ones the best.

What great photos! I liked the colorful butterfly one the best. You have such an eye to catch beautiful things.

Icy, the closeup is amazing. Great shots even though you were having battery issues. Thanks for bringing these to us.

Great photos Icy, I love the close up in the second photo. I used to have a camera that sounds like your old one, it burned through batteries in a few shots. Cameras and batteries have come a long way in a short time.

I think butterflies are the most beautiful things to photograph, especially if they're on flowers or leaves. I think you've done them justice here. YOur pictures remind me of the Audobon (sp?) in New Orleans. They have a huge butterfly sanctuary there.

Like Chay I do have two sets of extra battery esp. when I'm going for a long outdoor walk. :) It gets so frustrating and you'll never know when you'd be back again on that area. But at least you did manage some few shots.

I carry at least 6 batteries or more every time I take my camera and sometimes can only get one picture per set. It is indeed frustrating. I am forever recharging them. Your photos are breathtaking! Thanks so much for sharing!

I so LOVED this post. I really do love butterflies. I have an entire collection of butterfly photos that I took myself as well. Yours are pretty. :)

Oh wow, I remember that camera, Icy! But look, you still managed to get good shots! You guys saw a lot of nice butterflies! Wonderful experience for the kids. Nothing beats seeing it live -no book can beat that experience. And those butterflies are so friendly... human and nature interacts!
