The Casualty of Today's Wave Weaver Blog
The email came last night from Today.com editors, that I will not get pay per post anymore. I'm no longer a VIP blogger for various reasons and among these lame excuses are: popularity, productivity, quality, and potential.
Ha...I would have appreciated a straight and truthful reason than these bogus mass produced letter! Something like: we just want to lure people in with our pay per post, get them to drive traffic to our site, and then push them down a level. Wouldn't that be more honorable?
Every three months or so, they go through their "review" process, and toss out as many VIP bloggers as they can. Hey, how can they afford to pay $1 per post a day to thousands of bloggers after all? You do the math!!!
I made my first paid out at Today after three months. Whew...at least I got paid for all the time that I've spent on that blog!!
Here is my advice to all Today bloggers out there: write a post everyday while you are still in the VIP status. After you get kicked off the system, do whatever you want.
Today.com still has a decent paid out for traffic: $2 per thousand unique visits. I only wish that they were more straight forward and honest in their pay per post advertisement.
I also want to send out my apology to those people who had signed up at Today because of my persuasion. Forgive me, please...This is a good "live and learn" lesson for me.
I will remove Today's advertising from my blogs to prevent people from signing up under fault assumption!

I joined under the assumption that I would be paid per post only to find out that it was by impressions only. I have had 15 people join under me, and still have yet to see a $ amount recorded for it. They blow a lot of smoke to try to get you in there. Thanks for the warning.
ReplyDeleteSame happened to me. They decided only to pay for some posts and I had eight people join under me. They didn't pay me any money at all, just emailed to say I was a VIP blogger any more. I closed my account and asked to be paid and got nothing.
ReplyDeleteI copied my posts from their site, changed them a little and used them elsewhere rather than just let them have them.
Lanne,
ReplyDeleteOnly when your referrals get paid, you will see the amount recorded in your account. At least, that's what I understand!
Lizzie,
What a shame! I'm going to do the same with my posts after today!
Icy, I got the same email too, and sadly, I can not move all my materials, but I knew that all along. At least, I did not upload any of my pictures through their disk space, I am using photobucket, otherwise, I will really feel bad. I had been thinking all along to go independent of Today already, but just do not know where to start, I mean which site. I had a freely hosted wordpress blog before which i abandoned because i can not monetize it there, and the lure of Today was so good. So, am thinking of moving to blogspot or get my own domain instead. i will let you know when i find a new home. meanwhile, you will not see me with new post at Today as I am searching where to blog again.
ReplyDeleteBetchai,
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear that! I thought your blog is very popular, since you always did such a comprehensive post..What a shame that they knocked us all off like that!
I am so sorry to hear of this injustice. I don't believe I have ever visited their site, but will make a mental note not to.
ReplyDeleteI am with you in that I would prefer honesty. When I am lied to I feel that I am being thought of as stupid. It is such a slap in the face. I wonder if contacting the BBB would help?
Judy,
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to sweat about it! There is still the after life!
What a shame, and how underhand can you get! I am glad I have not joined yet...well I won't now.
